Stan Anderson, 58, of 4013 S. 24th, died at 7:30 a.m. Monday (Oct. 10, 2011) after a courageous 11-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Stan passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Born March 29, 1953, in Quincy to the late Juanita Parn Anderson and Joe Anderson, he graduated from Quincy Senior High School in 1971 and attended Illinois State University for one year. On Oct. 25, 1986, he married his beloved wife and best friend, Julie Bower. He sold appliances and electronics in Quincy for 21 years at Jon's Home Center and five years at his own business, Stan's Home Solutions. He worked briefly as a co-manager with Hobby-Lobby and then in sales with Cleary Buildings before retiring in November 2010 due to ill health. When talking about the best baseball/slow pitch softball players ever to come out of Quincy, Stan is one of the first mentioned. He could hit a home run like no other and was named to numerous all conference and all state teams. He was a member of the Busch Softball Team who played in many national tournaments in the 1980s and 1990s. His love for baseball is one of the things he passed on to his boys. Stan was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He says there is no place like Fenway! Stan touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. He was most proud to see his daughter Christy as a wife to Brian, and as a mother to his favorite "little man," Tyler; to see Cody graduate from college and become an incredible teacher; and to watch Shelby play his final season of college baseball. His children were his pride and joy. Stan will forever be remembered by his father Joe (Janet) Anderson; his brothers, Tim (Terry) Anderson and Terry (Arlene) Anderson; his devoted children, Christy (Brian) Tucker, Cody Anderson and Shelby Anderson; his treasured grandson, Tyler Tucker; caring in-laws, Ruth (Myrl) Shireman and Jim (Norma) Bower, Debbie (Paul) LeBlanc, Pam (Kendall) Bailey, Terry (Rhonda) Bower, Cheryl (Larry) Ely, Karen (Brent) Dade and Tom (Jill) Bower; along with many nieces and nephews and countless other family and friends who were blessed to know him. Stan was preceded in death by his mother Juanita Parn Anderson. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Friday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Disseler conducting.
