PALMYRA, Mo. -- Eleanor G. Brown, 86, of Palmyra, died Sunday (Oct. 28, 2012) in The Glen at Aberdeen Heights in Kirkwood.

Eleanor was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Palmyra, a daughter to Alexander Tavner and Martha Moore Griffith. She married Charles F. Brown on Sept. 23, 1945, in Palmyra. He died on Nov. 27, 2001.

Eleanor was an honor student and a 1943 graduate of Palmyra High School. She was a student leader chosen to represent her school in the Good Citizenship Pilgrimage Contest by the Missouri State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also presented with the courtesy award by the Palmyra I. O. O. F. Lodge No. 31. During her high school years, she was an accomplished pianist for musicians and vocalists in local and state music contests.

Eleanor and Charles shared a love of music and dancing throughout their lifetime together. Because of her patriotism, civic contributions, and leadership within her community, she was chosen as Grand Marshal for the Palmyra Homecoming Parade in 1992.

Mrs. Brown was a 50-year member of Chapter IE, P.E.O. where she served as President. She was a former member of the Pierian Club and the Mildred L. Briscoe Circle of Kings Daughters. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Palmyra.

Survivors include two sons, Charles "Brownie" Brown and his wife, Ann and Jim Brown and his wife, Michele, both of Palmyra; a daughter, Cindy Brown of St. Charles; grandchildren, Chris Germann and her husband, Jeff of Chesterfield, Lindsey Sells and her husband, Scott of Columbia, Mo., Courtney Garavaglia and her husband, Matt of Maplewood and Tav Brown of St. Louis; and great-grandchildren, Parker Germann of Chesterfield and Paige and Thatcher Sells of Columbia.

In addition to her husband, Charles, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Alex and Jim Griffith; and a sister in infancy.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra with Father Morgan Ibe and the Rev. Dawn Victoria Mitchell conducting. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra.

Casket Bearers will be Jeff Germann, Scott Sells, Matt Garavaglia, Tav Brown, Pat Blue, Judge Robert Clayton, Ken Greger and John Morthland. Honorary Bearers will be Bill Johnson, George Keller, George M. Lewis, Jack Lewis and Gene Maddus.

VISITATION: 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
