Carolyn Jean Powell, 77, of 617 S. Sixth, Quincy, died Tuesday (Feb. 12, 2013) in her home. She was born on Aug. 7, 1935, in Hannibal, Mo., a daughter of Everett and Verna Whisman Dufur. She married Edgar Powell and together they had her four children. Carolyn was employed at Quincy Holiday Inn for 15 years. She was of the Christian faith. She volunteered at Blessing Hospital in the knitting program making baby blankets and caps. When her children were growing up, she was a member and served as past president of the PTA at Irving School. She was also a Girl Scout leader. She is survived by children, Sharon Jespersen and her husband, Paul, of Windyville, Mo., Linda Ohlin and her husband, Jim, of Warren, Ohio, Ed Powell and his wife, Janet, and Diana Elder and her husband, Jim, all of Quincy; grandchildren, Sharla (Rey) Revilla, Steven (Erin) Jespersen, Sarah Ohlin, John Ohlin, Cory Powell, Christopher Powell and Maria Elder; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Revilla, Dylan Laughlin, and Steven and Elizabeth Jespersen; and a sister, Lavern "Lee" Ogle and her husband, Jim, of Quincy. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Patricia Georgi; and a brother, Carl Dufur. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Thursday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Chris Lefever. Interment will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
