Shirley Marie Kuse, 94, of Sunset Haven, formerly of 2837 Harrison, died at 9:20 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 23, 2013) in the home. She was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Quincy, a daughter of August and Bertha Loher Schmidt. She married Maurice R. Kuse on Nov. 30, 1940. He died Aug. 31, 2006. Shirley was a 1937 graduate of Quincy Senior High School. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was a former longtime member of the St. Elizabeth Society at St. Boniface Church. She was also a volunteer for the former St. Mary Hospital Auxiliary and the Blessing Hospital Auxiliary. Mrs. Kuse was also a member of the Council of Catholic Women. She is survived by two sons, Monsignor Michael Kuse of Quincy and Gregory Kuse and his wife, Joyce, also of Quincy; two granddaughters, Angel Venvertloh and her husband, Bruce, and April Sibbing and her husband, Richard, all of Quincy; great grandchildren, Abbie Kline, William and Michael Venvertloh and Augustus, Wesley and Sophia Sibbing; a sister, Betty Sipek of Pittsfield; and a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Schmidt of Quincy. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by five brothers, Floyd and Virgil Schmidt in infancy and Merle, Bob, and Donald Schmidt. SERVICES: 7 p.m. Thursday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Seventh and Adams. Interment will be Friday in Calvary Cemetery. VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the church.
