CANTON, Mo. -- Ruby G. Janney, 102, of Canton, died Monday (March 4, 2013) in the Lewis County Nursing Home. Ruby was born Nov. 30, 1910, in Taylor, a daughter of Ben A. and Hazel Schenks Brandt. Ruby was united in marriage to Louis Janney of Canton on Dec. 28, 1928. Louis died July 3, 1970. Ruby grew up in LaGrange, where she attended school and graduated from LaGrange High School. In high school she enjoyed participating in the sports of basketball and tennis. Ruby spent most of her adult life in Canton and worked at several businesses in downtown Canton. She worked for over 50 years in the family paint and building supply store, a business she founded. She enjoyed traveling and made several trips to Europe and also to Japan. She made numerous trips to Texas and California as well as other places in the states. She began painting after her husband's death and painted hundreds of still-lifes and landscapes which are very much enjoyed by her family. Ruby is survived by her three children, Betty Smith of Missouri City, Texas, Robert (Dixie) Janney of Canton and Dorothy English of Canton; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and their wives, and a son-in-law, Robert Smith. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday in Arnold's Funeral Home in Canton.
