Harlin W. Kitch Obituary
PALMYRA, Mo. -- Harlin W. Kitch, 94, of Palmyra, formerly of Taylor, died at 9 a.m. Thursday (March 28, 2013) in Blessing Hospital, Quincy, Ill.

He was born Aug. 23, 1918, in Steffenville, a son of Horace L. and Iva Mae Winfield Kitch. He married Margaret L. "Peggy" Tufo Sept. 1, 1945, in Readville, Mass. She survives.

Harlin served in the U.S. Navy for six years during World War II. He was on the USS Hanson, USS Sigourney and USS Arkansas and also served in the African-European, the American, the Asiatic-Pacific and the Philippine Liberation Campaigns. He was a member of Norfolk-Smith VFW 11101 and Boots-Dickson 174, American Legion, the Mississippi Valley Hunters and Fishermans Association, N.W.T.F. and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Palmyra.

He worked as a machinist at Gardner Denver Inc. in Quincy for 25 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

In addition to his wife, Peggy, survivors include a daughter, Harla (Jim) Friesz, of Palmyra; a son, John Kitch, of Bowling Green; a brother, Tom (Mary) Kitch, of Quincy; grandchildren, Tom Barnes, Chris Wellman, Candi (Bob) Buckman, Jaime (Dan) Gard, Dusty (Ashlee) Friesz and Jessica Friesz; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Harlin was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Newbold; a son, Richard Kitch; his parents; a sister, Myrtle Kitch; and a brother, Vincent Kitch.

SERVICES: A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Palmyra, with the Rev. Alex Ekka conducting. Interment with military honors will be in Steffenville Cemetery, Steffenville, Mo.

Casket bearers are Tom Barnes, Brandon Carter, Dusty Friesz, Will Wilburn, Dan Gard, Bob Buckman, Shelby Wellman and Eric Bond.

VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel, Palmyra, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

MEMORIALS: Great River Honor Flight.
