Edward Francis Evans, 88, of 3911 Pine Ridge Dr., formerly of Wheeling, died at 3:47 a.m. Saturday (March 30, 2013) in Blessing Hospital.

He was born Sept. 11, 1924, in Winburne, Pa., a son of George P. and Elizabeth V. Adam Evans. He married Ella Jean Tieken on July 3, 1948, in St. Andrew's Rectory, Chicago. She survives.

Edward attended St. Andrew's grammar school and graduated from Lane Technical High School in Chicago. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army Signal Corps during World War II from 1942 until 1946. He was deployed to both Europe and the South Pacific while he served.

He had been employed as a supervisor at Wells-Gardner Electronics in Chicago and retired in 1987. He and Jean lived in Wheeling for 27 years before moving to Quincy in 1989. He was a member of the Church of St. Peter. He was an avid golfer and served as secretary and treasurer of the Pine Ridge Cluster Home Association.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two godsons, Stanley Wilkos of Chicago and Steven Wilkos of Connecticut; a goddaughter, Melissa Weaver of Columbus, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Merle (Mary) Tieken of Quincy; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Spratt and Norma (Tom) Buffington, both of Quincy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Andrew, George, Emery, Michael, John, Louis, and two in infancy, George I and Francis; two sisters, Anna Pelican and Margaret Moore; five sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday prayer service in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter with Monsignor Leo Enlow conducting. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Church of St. Peter or Mercy Boys and Girls Home in Chicago.
