William E. "Bill" Vandament Obituary
William E. "Bill" Vandament of Signal Hill, Calif., died peacefully in his home Saturday, April 20, 2013.

He was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Hannibal, Mo., a son of A.E. and Ruth Vandament. He married Margery Lampe on Feb. 2, 1952, in Quincy.

He was a 1949 graduate of Quincy High School. He received his bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Quincy College in 1952 and master's degree in educational psychology from Southern Illinois University in 1953. In 1963, he received another master's degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts and his doctoral degree in 1964.

In his career, he was affiliated with the State University of New York at Binghamton, 1964-76; the Ohio State University as vice president for finance and planning 1976-81; New York University as senior vice president for administration, 1981-83; the California State University at Fullerton as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, 1983-91. In 1991, he became interim president at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich., and then was hired as president, a position he held until his retirement in 1997, when he and Margery moved back to Signal Hill.

Bill is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jane (Vern) Clair of Binghamton and Lisa (Ronald ) Burke of Signal Hill; a grandson, Austin Clair of Binghamton; a brother James (Marsha) Vandament of Quincy; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary McIntire; and a brother, Richard.
