PLEASANT HILL, Ill. -- Charles Wesley "Wes" Hubbard Jr., 86, of Pleasant Hill, died Monday (Aug. 19, 2013) at the Barry Community Care Center. Wes was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Spring Creek Township, Pike County, to Charles "Charlie" Wesley and Lula Rose McCann Hubbard Sr. He married Mary Catherine "Katie" Woodruff on Oct. 19, 1952, in New Berlin and she survives. He was a graduate of Nebo High School and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in occupied Japan. Wes was a longtime employee of the Illinois Central Railroad and also was a lifelong Pike County grain and livestock farmer. He was a member of the Nebo and Pleasant Hill American Legion posts and the Pleasant Hill Lions Club, was a 50-year member of Pleasant Hill Masonic Lodge No. 565, and had served for 10 years as a volunteer EMT. Wes was also an avid sports fan. He was a member of the New Testament Church of Christ in Pittsfield. Survivors include his wife, Mary Catherine "Katie" Hubbard of Pleasant Hill; four children, Charles "Charlie" Wesley Hubbard III of Wildwood, Mo., Nina (husband, Rob) Gleason of Elkhart, Terry (wife, Jane) Hubbard of Pleasant Hill and Mary Ann (husband, Tony) of rural Rockport; eight grandchildren, Ann Elizabeth Hubbard, Maggy (husband, Neal) Proctor, Molly Gleason, Leanna Gleason, Brent (wife, Tara) Hubbard, Jenna (husband, Dan) Peebles, Bryce Hubbard and Jake Crowder; and five great-grandchildren, Jack, Lane, Kate, Beckett and Sadie. Wes was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Hirst and Dorothy Hubbard, and a daughter-in-law, Susan Harley Hubbard. SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill conducted by Dan Van Hecke. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.
