LIBERTY, Ill. -- Kris Alan Horton, 37, of 1174 E. 2200th St., died Friday (Aug. 23, 2013) in Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis. He was born May 31, 1976, in Centerville, Iowa, a son of Gene and Sue Wright Horton. Kris recently had been working at the Illinois Veterans Home as a certified nursing assistant. He graduated from the John Wood Community College CNA program second in his class academically, and he was voted Most Compassionate by his fellow students. He had previously worked at Gene's Transmissions, Impact Classics and Aqua Tech Marine. Kris was a 1994 graduate of Liberty High School. He was a fan of the New England Patriots, and he loved playing and following baseball. He had many interests including playing pool, four-wheeling, drag racing and target shooting. He loved his kids and spending time with them having fun and playing video games. Survivors include his parents, Gene and Sue of Liberty; his children, Garret Elliott, Bradley, Wesley and Gauge Horton, all of Quincy; a brother, Ryan Horton, and his fiancÃ©e of Columbus; a nephew, Reece Horton; and his companion, Desiree Halemeyer, and her children, Alyssa and Deven, all of Hannibal, Mo. Many aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Kris was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home, Quincy, conducted by Kris's uncle, the Rev. Robert Young. Interment will be in Xander Cemetery, Liberty.
