John W. "‘Jack’" Simon Obituary
John W. "Jack" Simon, 87, of the Good Samaritan Home, died at 1:15 a.m. Friday (Jan. 10, 2014) in the Good Samaritan Home.
Born Dec. 11, 1926, in Quincy, Jack was a son of Clarence and Mildred Schmidt Simon. He married Shirley F. Dedert on Sept. 8, 1951, in Salem Church in Quincy. She died Oct. 31, 2011.
Jack was a longtime member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where he served two terms on the church council and as head usher for 47 years and he was a member of the Men's Brotherhood and Salem Couples Club. Jack was also a member of the Quinsippi Stamp Club, Exhausted Roosters of the JayCees, Quincy Masonic Lodge No. 296, Quincy Consistory, Quincy High Twelve Club, and served as a DeMolay advisor. Jack was also very active with the Ursa Retreat House where he served on the board of directors and as treasurer, and he was an Adams County precinct committeeman. Jack also loved camping and was a member of the Holiday Ramblers and the Camper Stampers.
Mr. Simon began his career at Knapheide Manufacturing as a draftsman and later worked in production control and scheduling. He retired after 42 years in 1987 as a quality control manager.
Survivors include two sons, Rodney Simon (Sandra) of North Riverside and Bradney Simon (Debbie) of Spartanburg, S.C.; a daughter, Kathy List (Lloyd) of Mason City; nine grandchildren, John W. Simon II (Cara), Matthew Simon (Pamela), Andrew Simon, Julie Toland (Darcy), Joseph Simon, Nicole Steel (Jason), Joshua Simon (Cherie), Nathan List, and Jason List (Taryn); six great-grandchildren, Whittaker Simon, Quinn Simon, Drew Toland, Jace Toland, Seth Toland, Noah Simon and Nicole is expecting in March; a close friend and cousin, Joyce Winn (Bill) of Quincy; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Simon was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Shirley.
SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Ken Kramer. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and until time of services Tuesday in the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: Salem Church or Good Samaritan Home.
