Cruz (Cuy) Canedo

Cruz (Cuy) Canedo
1921 – 2014

Our beloved father, Cruz (Cuy) Canedo was called home January 23 and we celebrate his reunion with his beautiful bride Leonor. Cruz was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 3, 1921 where he married, and worked for 40 years. Because of hard economic times he made the difficult decision of moving the family to California in 1960. Sacrificing time with his wife and children, he was away for long periods of time as a merchant marine in order to provide for his family. Sailing to far away ports and exotic places such as South Africa, Egypt, Hong Kong, Japan, Philippines, Russia, Brazil, Germany, Fiji Islands, New Zealand and numerous other lands, he always returned with wonderful stories and plenty of souvenirs. His wife and his family were his first love, followed closely by his beloved L.A. Angels which he didn't tire of rooting for, even though they frustrated him to end. We will all miss his voice as he accompanied his favorite "corridos" on one of the last transistor radios on the planet, which was his constant companion. Above all he loved the Lord and he could be heard often praying for his children and his brothers and sisters, and listening to Bible teachings (between Angel games and a Jorge Negrete song). He is survived by his sister Alice Cabrera and brother Joe, both of San Antonio, Texas. He leaves behind daughters Josie Oropeza of Anaheim and LaMar of Fullerton, sons Fernando of Claremont, Albert of Palm Springs, Vincent of Artesia and Joe of Norwalk – all living in California. The family invites all friends and relatives to the viewing, Monday, January 27 from 4:00- 8:00 pm with the memorial service taking place at 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 28. Both events will be at Dignity White's Funeral Home in Bellflower, California. Whites Funeral Home
