JOSEPH RAYMOND BLANCHETTE

Age 85, of Glendale, CA. It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend on January 6, 2014 at Glendale Adventist Hospital.

Raymond "Ray" was born in 1928 in Chicago, Ill and grew up in St. Boniface, Winnipeg, Canada. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Blanche and his brothers, Denis and John. He is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife and partner, Betty, of 23 years; his children, Jim (Julie), Mike, Ron (Kelly) and Debbie Acton (David); grandchildren, Christopher, Maria, Danny, Pearl, Trinity Acton, James Zuckerman, and Elizabeth Shearer; stepchildren, Judy Zuckerman (Kris), and Bobbie Shearer (Eddie); as well as many nieces, nephews and siblings: Robert, Denise and Jeannine Desautels. During Ray's life, he was a Surveyor, Inventor, Entrepreneur, Business Owner and Electronics Designer/Engineer. He holds several patents for his innovative ideas in engineering. Ray retired, after 30+ years as a Senior Design Engineer and Member of the Technical Staff at Hughes Aircraft Company, where he was a past member and president of the Hughes Aircraft Toastmasters Club. Ray's passions were radio control model airplanes, fishing, and golf. He also enjoyed sailing, music and dancing. He was an Assistant Scout Master of Troop 156 in the San Fernando Valley from 1968 - 1973 and a member of the Order of the Arrow. Ray was also a member of SpiritWorks Center in Burbank, CA.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the staff at Windsor Manor Retirement Home and Glendale Adventist Hospital for their compassionate care and support.

A celebration of Ray's life will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014, 3:00 p.m., at the Arboretum in Arcadia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The San Fernando Valley Radio Control Flyers (Academy of Model Aeronautics Charter Club #152), The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) or the Arboretum.
