Betty Louise Kostel passed away on March 26, 2013. She is survived by her beloved husband, Bob Kostel and daughters, Kathy Taylor (Brent) and Susan Cochran as well as her grandchildren, Heather Cerne (Mike), Dana Taylor Old (Tyler), Sean Cochran (Minue) and Ryan Cochran, She also delighted in her great grandchildern, Evan and Claire Cerne and Illari Cochran.
Betty was born on August 5, 1929 in Los Angeles, California. She grew up in Southern California with parents Gladys and Loyal Stanchfield. Betty met Bob at Narbonne High School in the 10th grade. These sweethearts were married on March 19, 1948. They recently celebrated their 65th anniversary.
Betty and Bob made their home in the San Fernando Valley and raised their family. An expert seamstress, Betty opened Sylmar Fabrics in 1964. This was a family project with Bob woodworking the interior design and Betty shopping with her daughters in the fabric district in Los Angeles. After a successful run, the store was sold and she continued her career as manager of the Fabric Department at Montgomery Ward in Van Nuys and then as a Human Resources Manager for the national corporation.
Both she and Bob retired at the age 60 and they enjoyed travel and golf in their retirement years. She was a member of the Woodley Lakes Women's Golf Club. Betty and Bob traveled throughout California for golfing tournaments and a highlight was when they played Pebble Beach. Betty's joy came from gardening and her family. She created a strong home environment and loved her time with soul mate Bob and laughing with her granchildren.
