Elizabeth Kingsbury (Betsy) Ellsworth Obituary
Elizabeth (Betsy) Kingsbury Ellsworth
Passed away peacefully on January 13, 2014, following a short illness, surrounded with love by her daughter Stacy, grandson Brandon, daughter Lynda and granddaughter Joanna.
Born on February 5, 1940 in Redlands, CA, Betsy was the daughter of the late Lawrence Henry Kingsbury and Betty McIntosh Shirley of the longtime Mentone/Redlands McIntosh family. Betsy graduated from Pasadena High School in 1957 at the Rose Bowl. She attended Pasadena City College where she joined the Phenix Sorority. She then transferred to Orange Coast College and continued her education at Long Beach State. Betsy married and had two daughters, Stacy and Lisa, and lived in Newport Beach. Betsy's love for Redlands brought her back to the city in the early 1970's. She worked for the Redlands Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in forming the first Business Improvement District which became the present Downtown Redlands Business Association (DRBA). She also introduced the first Farmers Market to Redlands, which ultimately became Market Night. Her charismatic personality led her to a very successful career working in sales and marketing in both radio and health screening. She went on to work for the USC Flight Safety Center at Norton Air Force Base. Betsy was a longtime member of the Redlands Soroptimist Club and an active volunteer for DRBA as an official Board Member. She also served as a member on the Plymouth Village Board. Betsy was an active supporter of Angels Closet and the Assistance League of Redlands, among various other local charities. Some of the many things Betsy loved were her home, gardening, reading, cooking, and football. She held the community of Redlands dear to her heart by always giving back in hopes of making a difference. Betsy always looked forward to spending time with her family and her countless number of friends. She also loved the beach and always looked forward to seeing "her ocean." She will always be remembered for her twinkling blue eyes, beautiful smile, positive attitude and her zest for life. She will be greatly missed by many.
Betsy is survived by her daughter Stacy Hallaway, grandson Brandon Hallaway, daughter Lisa Wanamaker, step-daughter Lynda Eliel and step-granddaughter Joanna Eliel. A Celebration of Life will be held on February 13, 2014 from 12:00 until 2:00 pm at the Redlands Country. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betsy's memory to the Redlands Assistance League Building Fund and Angels Closet Charities.
