Irene L. May
January 11, 1925-May 4, 2013
Age 88, passed away on May 4 in San Bernardino. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Clint Lea (Medford, OR), her son Gary Silvius, and his wife, Cindy (San Bernardino); her grandchildren, Wendy Coull (Grants Pass, OR), Michelle Coull (Medford, OR), Laura Silvius (Chatham, NJ), Stephen Silvius (Washington, DC), Elizabeth Silvius (Arlington, VA), and Virgil Hardman III (Lake Havasu City, AZ); her great-grandchildren, Erin and Corrine Webb and Aaron Hardman; and her sister, Loretta Bueerman (Redlands). She was predeceased by her husbands, Gordon Silvius and Aaron May, her daughter, Gail Silvius Hardman, her sisters, Jacqueline Domenici, Mary Jane Doose, and Elizabeth Silvius, her brother James Lutton, and her parents, Loyd and Florence Lutton.
Irene was born in Ignacio, Colorado, and moved with her family to Glendale, California, as a young child. She was married to Gordon E. Silvius from 1943 until his death in 1968. In 1972 she married Aaron May; they lived in West Covina and enjoyed friends, bowling, dancing and bridge. She worked many years as an administrative assistant for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. After Aaron's death in 1989, Irene moved to San Bernardino to live closer to her son and his family, where for many years she continued to enjoy bridge, shopping and other activities with her friends, son, and grandchildren.
Irene was a loving mother and grandmother. She shared her joys with those she loved and bore her sorrows with dignity and grace. Her loving and steady presence in our lives will be deeply missed.
Our family wishes to thank the dedicated staff at the Villas of San Bernardino and Charter Hospice for their tender and loving care for Irene as her health declined.
