JAMES L. HARP
Age 89, passed away at West Hills Hospital on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. He died after suffering from complications of several falls over the past few months.
Jim was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to James "Luther" and Maude Harp. He was a fighter pilot in World War II, flying 64 bombing missions over Italy. He later became a Colonel in the Air Force Reserve. He graduated from the
University of Illinois
with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
In 1948, he married Bette Harp and they had a daughter, Linda, and a son, Tom. They later moved to Los Angeles. For 40 years he owned Thermo Mechanical Systems, a research and development company that built turbos for engines in high altitude unmanned aircraft.
After Bette passed away, he married Joyce Riddell. They enjoyed spending time in Coronado. Through the years, Jim enjoyed flying airplanes he owned and also sailing. He was a kind person with a very sharp mind and a good sense of humor. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Riddell Harp, daughter Linda Moore, son Tom Harp, three grandchildren, one great grandchild, three step-children, five step-grandchildren and one great step-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012, 10:00 a.m., at Oakwood Memorial Park, Chapel of the Oaks, 22601 Lassen St., Chatsworth, CA.
