John William (Bill) Lucas
Born June 7, 1927. Passed Away January 7, 2014. Bill, a resident of Fontana and in business there since 1978.
Bill was born in Jamaica Plain, Mass. & moved to CA in 1951. He worked his way from security guard to district sales manager at ConRock for 21 years before opening his own business, Lucas Specialty Rock Co. in 1972, specializing in roofing aggregate.
He was the founder and CEO of Lucas Specialty Rock & Sand Co. Inc, originally in Irwindale. In 1980 the company moved to Fontana CA after a lengthy CRA government battle, where it has expanded to include Lucas Tapered Products / CalCant, all of which service the commercial roofing industry. Bill was past President of the Roofing Contractors Association of Riverside / San Bernardino counties and the recipient of the Roofing Hall of Fame award in 1994 from the Roofing Contractors Association of southern California.
During this time, he was a resident of Glendora from 1962 - 1988.
He retired in 1988 and moved to Prospect, OR in summers and Cathedral City CA in winters. There he and his wife spent time couples Country Dancing, which included dance competitions in the senior Olympics and were featured on the Club Dance Nashville TV series.
He led an active lifestyle with his wife Ruth, for the remainder of a 67 year great, active marriage, whom he also partnered with in business.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Ruth, his sister Dorothea and husband John Pyle of Glendora, son Wayne & wife Pamela of La Verne, Dana & wife Judy of Temecula, daughter Dawna & Michael Mascolo of Florence, OR, and 6 grand children - Christopher & Ombeline Lucas of Castries, France, Chad Lucas of Boise, ID, Stacey Fawcett of Modesto CA, and Sean & wife Nicole Mascolo of Albequerque NM, J.J. Mascolo of Salem, OR, Grant of Eugene, OR and 4 great grand children, Madison & Alyssa Fawcett of Modesto, Célestine & Sylvann Lucas of Castries, France.
Services were held Jan. 11, 2014 at Oakdale Memorial Park, Glendora, officiated by Rev C. Luff Johnson, followed by a graveside military tribute.
