LaVerne Ruth Patterson
1920 – 2014
LaVerne ("Vernie") Ruth Patterson 93 passed away February 24, 2014. She was born in Milwaukee, Wisc. August 30, 1920 and moved to Los Angeles as a young girl. She married Robert Ralph Patterson June 28, 1942 and had four children, Judie Dike (Woody); Jim Patterson (Edda); Ron Patterson (Darlene); and Lori Blackmon (John). She is also survived by 11 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren as well as her adored Nieces and Nephews and many long-time Friends.
Before marrying her beloved Ralph, Vernie traveled to Hawaii for work and adventure and happened to be there when Pearl Harbor was bombed. This further propelled her high sense of adventure and her love for Hawaii.
Vernie had a strong love for the Pomona First Baptist Church and was a member for over 60 years. She was involved with many activities within the Church including singing in the church Choir and being a member of the Bell Ringers and traveling with the very fun and young Overtones singing group. Over the years she worked at Lockheed, LeRoy Boy's Home and the Los Angeles County Fair.
She will always be remembered for her sharp wit, her love of the ocean, travel and camping in their RV in her great outdoors with Ralph and her family.
A Memorial service will be held at Pomona First Baptist Church on Saturday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m.
