Johnny Hagerman (Jr)
John R. Hagerman, Sr. "Jack" of Riverside, CA went home to the Lord on February 22, 2013 where he was reunited with the love of his life, his wife Mary Ellen. Born in 1937 to Wilbur and Mary Hagerman, he was the youngest child of four. He grew up in Rosemead, CA, where he developed a lifelong love for all things athletic and outdoorsy. Always an avid sportsman, he enjoyed fishing, racquetball, jogging, weight lifting, and cheering on his favorite baseball, basketball, and hockey teams.
He graduated in 1954 from Rosemead High School in Rosemead, CA and enlisted in the U.S.
a few years after, serving from 1960 until 1962 when he was Honorably Discharged Rank Sp/4 (Specialist E4). Upon leaving active service, and following in the footsteps of his father, he began a career in banking. A man of varied business interests, he later earned his Associates Degree in real estate from Chaffey College in 1982. He retired in 1997 as an Assistant VP at Wells Fargo Bank. In recent years, he had worked at Citizen's Bank Arena in Ontario, CA.
He married his beloved Mary Ellen on December 28, 1973, and they resided in Montclair, CA for more than 30 years. Together they began a journey of love, family, and tradition, raising six children until they were parted in 2003. He took great pride in his most prized possession- his family, particularly his grandchildren, all of whom he was eager to brag about any chance he got.
He is preceded in death by his parents Wilbur & Mary Hagerman; his wife Mary Ellen; and his siblings, W. Robert Hagerman, Mary Wasson, and Naomi Ohngren. He is survived by his children, John A. Hagerman of Kalispell, MT; Teresa Padilla (Carlos) of Jacksonville, NC; Stacey Hoffstot (Bill) of Highland, CA; Johnny R. Hagerman, Jr. (Travis) of Spring Green, WI; Melissa Sanders (Jeff) of Fontana, CA; and Kristal Alvarez of Rancho Cucamonga, CA. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Brittany, Cassandra, Broderick, Kaytlynn, Caitlin, William, Joseph, and Jeffrey, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial will be held at Harvest Christian Fellowship Church in Riverside (6115 Arlington Ave) on March 5th, 11:00AM, followed by funeral service at Riverside National Cemetery (22495 Van Buren Blvd). The family has requested that attendees wear an article of clothing in his favorite colors blue or red. Donations may be made in his honor to Autism Speaks or The Arc for People with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities.
