WADHAM, Shirley Beryl (Teichroew)

Shirley Wadham, age 91, of Glendora, died December 25, 2013. Shirley was born Sept. 2, 1922 in St. Paul, MN, the eldest of three children born to Henry W. and Verna B. (Burfield) Teichroew. She graduated from Hancock Elementary and Wilson High School in St. Paul, and attended Hamline University.
Shirley moved to California in 1941 where she worked in a factory for the war effort during WWII, and later as a bank teller and bank reconciler in Los Angeles. She was active in PTA throughout her children's school years and went back to work as a special education classroom paraprofessional when her children were grown.
She married Ambrose "Andy" Wadham in Pasadena, CA, in 1947. They moved to Oregon soon after and lived there for four years before returning to Southern California in 1952. They celebrated 59 years of marriage shortly before Andy's death in 2006. They loved to travel and took train or road trips every summer while their children lived at home. When they retired in 1986, they took their longest road trip-19,800 miles over five months-throughout the United States and Canada. Shirley and Andy were active lifelong learners, attending local community education programs and Elderhostels throughout the United States. Their passion for genealogy took them back 400 years and many generations.
Shirley is survived by her son, Alan (Kathy) Wadham, La Verne, CA; daughter, Sherrill (Russell) Sparks, Cottage Grove, MN; brother, Warren (Ruth) Teichroew, White Bear Lake, MN; sister, Janet Crow, North Oaks, MN; granddaughters, Courtney Wadham, Scottie (Jon) Ingersoll, Katie (Mark) Wold, all of Southern California; five great-grandchildren, Kaidyn Wadham, Trevor and Alex Ingersoll, Toby and Abby Wold; many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Mission Lodge, San Gabriel for the care Shirley received during last eight months of her life. She was treated with respect, dignity and compassion.
A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn, Covina Hills (Via Verde), on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 12 noon. Memorial donations may be sent to Convalescent Aid Society (Pasadena, CA), Shriners Hospital (Minneapolis, MN), City of Hope (Duarte, CA), or a charity of donor's choice.
