Aliya Gordon passed away Saturday, May 5 at Northridge Medical Center following a brief illness. Her great passions in life were her family and friends. She loved to spend time camping, playing cards, and competing in trivia contests.
Raised in the San Gabriel Valley, Aliya spent the last 20 years of her life as a
resident of the Santa Clarita Valley and was an active parishioner at both Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha churches. She graduated from Arcadia High School in 1969 and went on to earn a political science degree at USC in 1973. Aliya worked for 30+ years as a claims adjuster and had recently retired from a long career with Allstate Insurance.
Aliya is survived by her four daughters - Glenna of Durham, NC, Crista of Castaic, CA, Delaney (Scott) Vollmer of New Orleans, LA, and Kelly (John) Zuiker of Lake Balboa, CA. She is predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Paul, her parents Dr. & Mrs. Philip Attalla, as well as her parents in-law Glenn & Eleanor Gordon.
There will be rosary service on Thursday, May 10 at 6:00pm at Eternal Valley in Newhall. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 11 at 1:30pm at Blessed Kateri in Saugus.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be directed to the Aliya Gordon Memorial Scholarship which has been established in her honor. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a female graduating senior of Hart High School who displays excellence in academics and a strong community service background.
