GRIDER, Frances Blevins Hasbrouck
The Guest Book is expired.
Frances Blevins Hasbrouck Grider of McCall, Idaho, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, February 20th, 2013. She was surrounded by her adoring children and grandchildren for the last week of her life. Born May 21st, 1930 in Los Angeles, she was the only child of Leonard and Pearl Blevins, and was raised in South Gate where her father was the assistant controller at Firestone. After graduating from high school, Fran attended USC where she earned a B.S in Business and a Master's degree in Education in 1953. At USC, Fran was active in the Delta Delta Delta sorority and Mortar Board.
Fran met William (Bill) Hasbrouck at USC. They married and raised four children, moving between Glendale and Anaheim, and all followed their parents to USC. Fran was a full-time mother who instilled in her children the value of family, hospitality, hard work, a respect for others regardless of their social or financial standing, undying patriotism and the need to have a strong relationship with the Lord. Fran and Bill were happily married for 39 years until his death. Fran was always volunteering in charities, including P.E.O., Children's Hospital of Orange County and many organizations at USC: Women of Troy, San Diego Trojan League, Town and Gown and USC Hospital Guild (founding member). She served many volunteer hours at Lake Avenue Church but most important to her was her lifelong involvement in small group Bible studies where she prayed faithfully for others and sought prayer for her friends and family. She was always reaching out to help and connect others, whether they were in need or simply to give words of encouragement.
Fran married the second love of her life, Richard Grider, in 1999. She loved and actively engaged his grandchildren as her own. Dick and Fran traveled the world visiting family and friends until his affliction with Alzheimer's and eventual death in 2008. Fran's 11 grandchildren brought her special joy and she made sure each one knew of her interest in their lives and her love for them. Frances is survived by her sons David (Elizabeth) and John (Cordelia), daughters Mary Ehrlich (Glenn) and Nancy Hasbrouck, and grandchildren Gregory, Jillian, Christopher, Taylor, Philip, Mary Elizabeth, Madeleine, Catherine, Emily, William and Harrison. A memorial service will be held at Lake Ave. Church in Pasadena at 11:00 am on March 5, 2013. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Keck USC Hospital Guild or Lake Ave. Church/Mariners.
