Dorothy was born on February 18, 1916 in Wabash, Indiana. She came to Redlands, California with her parents, Lutz and Laila Rettig, and brothers Brooks and David in 1919. She attended Redlands schools, graduating from Redlands High School in 1934 and the University of Redlands in 1938. She moved to Hawaii in 1938. She lived in Honolulu and worked at Pearl Harbor in 1941 during the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese and remembered "the day of infamy" as though it were yesterday. In 1986 she married her wonderful husband Frederick (Fritz) Irwin in Hawaii. In 1991 they relocated to Sun City, California, and then moved to Redlands in 1998. She is survived by her step-daughter Linda Jane Irwin of Volcano, Hawaii and step- son Michael (Susan) Irwin of Reno, Nevada. She is also survived by many cousins including Ann (Reg) Keddie of Wilsonville, Oregon; Joan (Bill) Owen of Wabash, Indiana; Suzanna Allen of San Francisco and Sally Swing of Berkeley. She also leaves her niece Mary Laila "Peg" (Jeff) Noble of Yucaipa and nephews Ross (Bonnie) Rettig of Redlands, Franz (Susan) Rettig of Redlands, and Wayne (Donna) Rettig of Tucson, Arizona. A memorial service will be held in the Brewster Room at Plymouth Village, 945 Salem Drive, Redlands on July 2 at 11:00 a.m. Aloha attire suggested and a cheerful disposition required.
