He was the second of five children: older brother Sonny, young brother Dean and little sisters Charlene and Connie. Hal and best friend, Lloydie Roberts, enlisted five months before graduation of high school in Rosendale, MO. Their diplomas were awarded despite their absence. Golf was his passion and he played for many years at Porter Valley Country Club. He and his wife, Joan, were fortunate to travel the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe, playing lots of golf and making friends. A highlight was playing at the birth place of golf, St. Andrews, Scotland. In addition to golf, he and brother, Dean, were on a bowling team for years.
