John L. Cullinan, 83, of Rockland, died May 18, 2013, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was born in Weymouth, son of the late Margaret T. Fitzgerald, and William L. Cullinan. John was raised along the South Shore but mostly grew up and educated in Rockland graduating from Rockland High School in 1948. Following high school, Mr. Cullinan joined the United States Army
Air Force, and served our country in the Korean War
. John tried his hand at various skills and eventually went to work as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, where he would work for 15 years. After his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service, he worked part-time for Mail Boxes Etc., now the UPS store and eventually retired full-time. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, and fishing. John was the husband of Lucille (OConnor) Cullinan; stepfather of Frances L. Hastings of Kansas, Karen M. Byers of Rockland, and Lawrence M. Lowe of Marshfield; brother of Margaret M. Maciel of Fall River; grandfather of Kenneth L. Lowe of Rockland, Kaylee A. Lowe of Rockland, Michael L. Hastings of Kansas, and Matthew T. Hastings of Kansas. Also survived by seven great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. A celebration of John's life was held Thursday, May 23, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 24, 2013, at 9 a.m. at the Holy Family Church in Rockland. Burial will follow in St. Patricks Cemetery in Rockland.
