Mary E. Rourke(1925 - 2018)

Mary E. Rourke of Abington passed away peacefully on August 6, 2018. She was born June 26, 1925, in Lewiston, Maine, and grew up in Auburn, Maine. She was the oldest of 3 children born to Frank and Anne Turgeon. She graduated from Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pa., and received her master's degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wis. Mary was employed at Arthur D. Little, Inc., in Cambridge for 25 years until her retirement in 1991. Following her retirement, Mary became a trustee and later chairman of the board at the Dyer Memorial Library in Abington. She was a member of the East Bridgewater Branch of the Old Colony YMCA for over 20 years participating in water aerobics and various trips and outings. Mary and her husband Ed were volunteer supporters at Boston College High School, Saint Bridgets Church and school in Abington, the Abington Little League, as well as the Abington Murphy Club Pee Wee and Midget football teams for many years. Their support included attending many sporting events for their four sons from Pee Wee football through high school, college, and on to the NFL Super Bowl. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, Edward J. Rourke Sr., and by her parents, Frank and Anne Turgeon, along with her sister, Ruth McDonough, and brother, Frank Turgeon Jr. Mary is survived by her four sons, Edward Jr. and his wife Lynn, James and his wife Carol, Charles and his wife Susan, Mark and his wife Carmen. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Kristin, Alanna, Kara, Timothy, Mark Jr, Pearl, and Matthew. Mary will be forever remembered by her nieces, nephews, and extended family of cousins and dear friends. Visiting hours at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 E. Water St., Rockland, on Friday, August 10, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Bridget Church, 455 Plymouth St., Abington, on Saturday, August 11, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Saint Patricks Cemetery, West Water St., Rockland.
