Glenn Summers Obituary

Glenn M. Summers, 65 of Rockland died on July 11, 2011 at the South Shore Hospital. He was born in Libertytown, MD son of Violet (Smith) Summers and the late Samuel P. Summers, Jr. he was raised and educated in Maryland and was a member of the first graduating class of Linganore High School in 1963. Glenn served in the US Army in Vietnam and Germany attaining the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Summers had a wide ranging career, he had been a driver for Strickland Freight Lines and later served as a member of the Rockland Highway Dept. and he was a Dispatcher and Special Police Officer for the Town of Rockland. He held the position of Seasonal Manager for K-Mart in both their Boston and Braintree locations. He retired earlier this year as a driver for VHS Transportation Co, in Easton. Glenn was the Commander of American Legion Post #1788 IN Rockland and he was an associate member of the Rockland Council, Knights of Columbus. He loved hunting and fishing and he was an avid Lottery player. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Stephanie C. (Taylor) Summers and his children Courtney L. Summers and her fianc David Bazer of Rockland, Tami J. Wagner o f TX. He was the brother of Samuel P. Summers, III, James E. Summers, Sr. and Kevin E. Summers all of MD. He was the grandfather of Dani Wagner and Jesse Bryson and the son in law of Alice M. and the late Carlton Taylor of Brockton. Glenn was the brother-in-law of Deborah and Peter Arena of Rockland, Robert and Bonnie Arena of Hanson, Steven Taylor of Brockton, Kareen and Paul Arena of Rockland and Edward Taylor of Pembroke. Also surviving is a special niece Alexis Taylor and many other nieces and nephews. The Summers family welcomed friends and loved ones to celebrate Glenns life at the Rockland V.F.W. Post #1788, 22 Church St. Rockland on Thursday July 14, 2011 from 4 - 7 p.m. Burial with full Military Honors will take place on Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at a time to be announced. Thank you for ur call Mrs.Summers for Glen played a big role in our life he tranported a very dear friend of ours to and from work. Glen cared about everyone, he didn't treat you like a case he treated u like a friend. Glen you will be greatly missed by all the lives u have touch ,also I think it is very special that ur service is on Amy's birthday July 14,2011 and in hopes the two of u have met again.
