James J. Burns Jr., 83, of Abington died April 7, 2013, at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center. He was born in Hanover, son of the late James J. Sr. and Nellie Mae (Beadsley) Burns and was educated there and in Rockland. A member of the Teamsters Union Local 653, he drove for Hallamore Transportation for many years. He also was a driver for the Phoenix Spring Beverage Co. in Brockton. Jim was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Hanover American Legion and the Whitman VFW. Husband of the late Sylvia (Rice) Burns, he is survived by a son, Larry Rice of Whitman; a brother, Francis Burns of Rockland; and a granddaughter, Julia M. Finnerty. Burial was held Friday, April 12, 2013, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, at 11:30 a.m. The Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland, was honored to assist the family.
