John "Jack" Ranney Hauthaway , 72, died May 3, in Stuart, Fla. Born in Quincy, Mass., he moved to West Palm Beach in 1975 and settled in Stuart in 1985. An accomplished piano musician, he played in Boston, Cape Cod, Palm Beach, Fla., Stuart, Fla., as well as Japan. He graduated from the American Theatre Wing in New York where he learned to hone his acting and stage skills. Throughout his life he utilized those skills to enhance his musical performances. He was an adventurous pilot, held a sea captain's license and gave boat tours in St. Lucie, Fla., using the name Jupiter Otter. Jack lived life to it's fullest and encouraged others to do the same. He leaves his wife, Valerie Hauthaway of Stuart, Fla.; three sons, Mark Hauthaway of Mass., Carl Hauthaway of Florida, Malcolm Hauthaway of N.H.; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Hill of Florida, Christine Duerr, Fla; a sister, Ellen LaRose of Mass.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two great-nieces.
