Harold A. Warren, Jr, Lt Col, USAF (retired) of Boxborough, MA passed away at Emerson Hospital July 27, 2013 of pulmonary illness. A Boxborough resident since 1963, Harold was born May 23, 1923 in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. He was predeceased by his father Harold A. Warren, Sr, mother Dorothy B. Warren, brother David B. Warren, daughter Pamela S. Warren and son David H. Warren. He is survived by his wife Shirley M. Warren, brother Frederick S. Warren, sister Virginia W. Francois and his children James A. Warren, Bruce P. Warren and his wife Angela, Carol W. Fenton and husband David, Sharon W. Davis, Nancy B. Warren along with twenty-eight grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harold began his service career during WWII as a B-24 pilot, completing 35 combat missions over Europe then continuing through the Korean conflict as a B-29 pilot and then piloting C-130 aircraft in Vietnam. He retired as a
command pilot in 1968 after 25 years of active duty. Among his honors are the Distinguished Flying Cross, seven Air Medals, and Europe and Asia campaign medals. During his service years he flew research missions through atomic bomb testing bursts and was instrumental in the installation of the Atlas missile systems at Plattsburgh Air Force Base, NY and the design and planning of the E-3 AWACS command and control aircraft while assigned to
the Air Research and Development Command at Hanscom AFB, MA.
Following his distinguished Air Force career, he entered the construction industry as a site supervisor building many local projects. An avid aviation enthusiast, he was an active FAA licensed flight instructor and aircraft maintenance inspector. Hal was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association restoring several aircraft of his own and certifying many others in the local area.
A celebration of life will be held on August 1 at 1:00pm at the Boxborough Congregational Church, 723 Massachusetts Ave (Rte. 111) Boxborough. Those who wish may make donations in Mr. Warren's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project or the United Service Organization (USO).
