Richard Neylon Farrell retired Stow Police Officer
, 81, died peacefully Wed. April 3, 2013 at his Sterling home. He and his wife, Barbara A. (Davis) Farrell were to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on April 12th. Born and raised in Leominster, he was the son of the late Francis and H. Ruth (Hurley) Farrell, and was a former longtime member of the Leominster Elks. Mr. Farrell served honorably with the US Army
during the Korean War
. He began his career as a police officer with the Acton Police Department, and joined the Stow Police in 1965. He retired in 1969 following a career ending injury after being shot responding to an armed robbery in Stow. A former resident of Acton, Lancaster and Northboro, Mr. Farrell loved taking car rides around the area towns, playing cards, spending time with friends and family, and long walks. He was predeceased by a son, Peter Farrell, and two brothers, Francis "Sam" Farrell and James "Bud" Farrell. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 5 children: Jeanne H. Morin and husband Richard of Newfield, ME, Patricia Farrell and companion Mary Draper of Lowell, Kevin Farrell and wife Karen of Stow, Richard Farrell Jr. and longtime companion Kelley Harrington of Worcester, and Joanne Farrell of Sterling; a sister Joanne Lanza and husband Henry of Leominster; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting Sat. April 6th from 2-5pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. Private interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, W.
