John M. Jack Calnan, 81, of Arlington died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham. The son of the late John and Elizabeth (Esler) Calnan, he was born in Arlington, July 12, 1931. He proudly served in the Army. He later moved to Briton, Conn., where he had been employed as a car salesman at Papas Dodge in New Bristol, Conn., before moving back to the Boston area. Jack enjoyed sports and was proud of all his grandchildren. He was the father of Jay Calnan of Norwell, Dawn Johnson (Neil) of Lake City, Fla., and the late Christopher Calnan. Jack is survived by his former wife, Patricia (Jankowski) Calnan of Bristol, Conn.; five grandchildren, Christopher, Daintry and John Jake Calnan and Dawn and Christian Johnson. He was the brother of the late Helen McNally; and is also survived by two nieces, Susan and Lynne; and his former daughter-in-law, Janine Vazza of Norwell. Visiting hours were held at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte. 53, in Hanover, Monday, Sept. 3, from 5-9 p.m. A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 9 a.m. in St. Helens Church, 383 Washington St., Rte. 53, in Norwell, followed by interment with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, at 3 p.m. For our online guest book, SullivanFuneralHomes.com.
