Albert Joseph Gustaff, 96, of Frederick, MD, passed away on May 31, 2013 in Emmitsburg, MD. He was the husband of the late Leona Gustaff. Albert was born on November 20, 1916, in Worcester, MA and was the son of the late Joseph and Ona Guzievyc. He served in the Navy during WWII. Albert acquired an electrical engineering degree from Tufts University and later taught classes there while doing research on high altitude weather balloons. He also helped develop optical lenses for the Viking Mars Lander. In the 70s, he and his wife had a business importing handicrafts made by native groups supported by the Peace Corp and Catholic missionaries in third world countries. At 75, he and his wife lived in Lithuania for a year, teaching English as a second language. He is survived by his children Veronica Deisler and husband Arthur Wehrhahn, Frances Randolph and husband Robert Randolph, Joan Gustaff, and Joseph Gustaff and wife Ann Gustaff. Also survived by grandchildren Christian Deisler, Matthew Randolph, Caitlin, Rachel, and Tara Gustaff and great grandchildren Jacqueline, Abigail, and Claudia Deisler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday July 5th at 11:00AM at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 East Second St., Frederick. Father Stephen D. Gosnell will officiate.
