Hollis Courtland Gallot, born in Holliston, MA on January 2, 1917, died in his home at the age of 95 in Quarryville, PA on November 11, 2012. Great listener, great story teller, and friend to all, is what anyone who knew Hollis would have said. A WWII
veteran, he served in the US Army
European Theater as a Corporal in the 60th Transportation Corps group, and was a member of the East Holliston Volunteer Fire Department and Grange. He was a Boy Scout in his youth and later a Scout Master for many years. He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Holliston, and most recently a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church of Quarryville. Although farming was his passion, he worked as a tree surgeon, orchardist, machine shop operator, and by retirement was head of the Maintenance Department for Holliston Middle School. He worked for years in the Holliston School System and was fondly known as Mr. G by the school children. He also built and operated a small commercial greenhouse in Holliston. An avid gardener, his extraordinary backyard garden in Quarryville supplied his family, neighbors, and local food bank with an abundance of quality produce. If asked why he planted so much, he would say, To give the vegetables to people. He was Pa not only to his many children and grandchildren, but to all the kids that knew him. He was preceded by his wife of over 50 years, Arlene Sawyer Gallot, and daughter Elizabeth Gallot Stadalski of Holliston, MA. He is survived by three children, Doris (Jerrie) Gorenflo of Ontario, OH, William John Gallot of Auburn, NH, James Courtland Gallot of New Haven, VT; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. We the family, thank Hospice and Community Care who loved and cared for him, making it possible for him to remain in his home as he had always wished. Funeral Services were held at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, 75 Mt. Hope Road, Quarryville, PA on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at 2:00PM with Pastor Michael Miller officiating. A viewing was held at the church from 1:00PM until the time of service. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery with military honors accorded by Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and Lancaster County Vet 21 Salute Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hollis memory to Hospice and Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
