Anna A. Koenig Obituary
Anna Ana (Papazian) Koenig, 95, of Stockton, CA, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at her home surrounded by family. Born October 14, 1926, in Franklin, Massachusetts to Minas and Dziadzan Papazian, Anna spent her formative years in Massachusetts, graduating from Franklin High School. Soon after, one of her friends described how fulfilling nursing was as a career and Anna, who had planned to become a secretary, decided to become a nurse. Interestingly, Dziadzan was certified as a midwife in Glasgow, Scotland. She applied and became a member of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps, attended and graduated from Massachusetts Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Boston in 1948. After graduating she remained at work in the Maternity unit for two more years. She was a lifetime member of the alumni association. In 1950, Anna and several of her friends, also nurses, moved to California, settling in Stockton, where she went to work for San Joaquin County Hospital. It was there and then she met, fell in love with and married Francis J. Koenig. Their forty-four year love affair and marriage continued until his death in 1996. In March 1953, Anna began her career with Dameron Hospital in Stockton. During her forty-year tenure at Dameron, she continued her work as a Registered Nurse for patients in Maternity, Medical/Surgical Unit, IV Therapy, as well as a PM RN Supervisor, Day RN Supervisor and finally as Assistant Director of Nursing. Throughout her career and together with her husband, she raised two sons, Francis and Mark. Fondly known by many as Dottie Dameron, Anna returned to school, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Management from Pacific Christian College in 1979, a degree she was very proud to have received and put to good use at the hospital. In 1993, after more than forty years of service, Anna retired from the position of Damerons Associate Director of Nursing Services. Upon her retirement the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors presented Anna with a commendation and extended congratulations to her for lengthy and devoted service to the nursing profession in particular and health care field in general. In her retirement years, Anna visited with her friends and traveled Europe, Mexico and Alaska. But most of her time and energy was spent doting on her four granddaughters, encouraging them in life and spending every Friday afternoon with them. Her most recent travel was in May with her family to attend the college graduation of her eldest grandchild, Lissa. Surviving family members include her sons, Francis F. Koenig and Mark G. Koenig, grandchildren Lissa Jenat Koenig, Julee Simone Koenig, Sharyl Marie Koenig and Cameron Willow Wilson. Cousins in Massachusetts Elizabeth Karekeian, Sirpouhi Andonian, Lucy Semerjian, Sona Bedirian, Artemus DeGiacomo and Mary DeMilo. Daughter-in-law Diane Sprake Koenig and Elissa Lynn Wilson. Preceded in death by cousins Nicholas Karamanian and Alice Giragosian. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday, June 28, 2012. Committal at Cherokee Memorial ParkLodi, CA. Memorial Donations in Stockton, CA: St. Marys Dining Room, St. Marys High School, Hospice of San Joaquin, Dameron Hospital Foundation.
