Bernadette "Detta" M. (McEleney) Johannessen, 86, formerly of Medfield, died Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Courtyard Towers Assisted Living in Mesa, Arizona.She was the wife of the late Howard A. Johannessen who died January 27, 2002. Mrs. Johannessen was a graduate of Roslindale High School. She and her husband Howard lived in Medfield for 36 years where they raised their seven children. Bernadette was very active as a member of the Catholic Daughters at St. Edward's in Medfield. She worked for the Polaroid Corporation for 16 hears retiring in 1985. She and her husband retired to Brooksville, Florida where they lived for 11 years. They then moved to Arizona in 1996. She is survived by her seven children, daughter Carol J. Cantor and her husband Neil of Gilbert, AZ, daughter Gail P. Trusow and her husband Chris of Eagle, NE, son Stephen P. Johannessen and his wife Mary of Bourne, MA, daughter Diane F. Johannessen of Payson, AZ, daughter Karen D. Spurling and her husband John of Medway, MA, son John P. Johannessen and his wife Carolyn of Mansfield, MA and daughter Christine M. Somers and her husband Mark of Wrentham, MA. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren (with number 20 due in September), 2 great-great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edward McEleney, Kathryn "Kay" Gordon, Phillip McEleney, Anna Mueller, Mary Sabalski and Imelda "Mel" Connolly. There was a memorial service held at the Falconer Funeral Home in Gilbert, Arizona on Thursday, July 5, 2012. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a future memorial mass on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Medfield. Burial will follow at the Vine Lake Cemetery in Medfield. All are welcome to attend a celebration of Bernadette's life at the Spurling residence, 16 Robin Circle, Medway immediately following services.
