Daniel W. Harp Obituary
Daniel Walter Harp, 71, of Millis, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of Delana B. (Burdick) Harp, to whom he was married on June 8, 1968. Born on August 1, 1946 in Meadville, PA, he was the son of the late Milton C. Harp and the late Ruby E. (Ames) Harp. Daniel was a graduate of Southwestern Central High School, Class of 1964, in Jamestown, NY, and received his Bachelor's Degree from Alfred University in Alfred, NY. He proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Army. Daniel worked for many years in the field of Information Technology for Corning Glass Company in Corning, NY; Digital Equipment Corporation in Marlborough, MA; for Blue Cross and Blue Shield; and for Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. A resident of Millis for the past thirty-three years, where he attended Church of Christ Congregational Church, he previously lived in Elmira, NY. One of life's 'good men', he was actively involved with his church, where he had served as its Treasurer and as a volunteer, and in his community, where he was a member of the Town of Millis Town Finance Committee. His had an overwhelming love for his family, and treasured his grandchildren. Daniel enjoyed watching football, and could often be found working on his computer in his home office. He had a special place in his heart for his dogs: 'Bella' and the late 'Gabby' & 'Sugar'. In addition to his wife, Delana, he is survived by his dear children: Matthew D. Harp of Westboro, MA; Sarah C. (Harp) Franklin and her husband, Derek T. Franklin, of North Attleboro, MA; and Patrick C. Harp of Waltham, MA. He was the adoring grandfather of Gwenyth A. Franklin and Heidi C. Franklin, both of North Attleboro, MA, and the brother of JoAnne (Swanson) Ling of Jamestown, NY, Timothy J. Harp of Belgium, and the late Milton J. Harp and the late Matthew L. Harp. He leaves several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Daniel's final resting place will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Millis, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Daniel to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168 would be appreciated.
