FRANKLIN David X. Foley, Sr. 83 of Franklin, died peacefully, Sunday Dec. 8, 2013 at Milford Regional Medical Center, with his wife and family at his side, following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Theresa M. (Barrett) Foley. Born April 14, 1930 in Somerville, a son of the late Daniel J. and Helen (Murphy) Foley, he was a resident of Franklin for over 50 years. David was raised and educated in Somerville, and until his retirement several years ago, worked as an insurance agent for John Hancock Life Insurance Company. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Ribbon, the United Nations Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. He also was awarded the expert & sharpshooter rifle and pistol badge. He was honorably discharged in June 1962 and remained a loyal Marine. A devoted husband, father and grandfather he treasured time spent with his family, playing golf and rooting for all the Boston sports teams. He was a Life Member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks BPOE #2136 and was a communicant of St. Brendan Parish, Bellingham. In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his children; David X. Foley, Jr. CW04 US Coast Guard Ret. and his wife Beverly Reid of Jacksonville, FL, Kathleen DeGrandis of Easton, Denise Ficco and her husband Daniel of Franklin, Christine Dolph of Franklin, Theresa Mantoni and her husband John of Northbridge, Patricia Iannitelli Larsen and her husband Donald of Milford and Dianne Hagopian and her husband George of Wrentham, sisters; Frances ORourke of Newton, Eleanor Foley of Lexington, Mercedes Walsh of Lexington, Catherine Cheatham of Marlboro, 16 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Rev. James Foley CSSR, late Rector of Mission Church, Roxbury, Daniel Foley, and Anna May Bradley. He was also predeceased by sons in laws; Donald DeGrandis, Matthew Iannitelli and Christopher Dolph. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Fri. Dec. 13th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin with a funeral Mass in St. Brendan Parish 384 Hartford Ave. Bellingham, MA 02019 at 10:30AM. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Franklin. Calling hours are Thurs. from 3-7PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the Friends of Franklin 50 Corbin St. Franklin, MA 02038.
