Obituary Condolences

Dominic D. DiMartino 91, of Franklin, West Falmouth and Hollywood, Florida, died peacefully, Friday October 19, 2012 at the Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center in Franklin, following an illness. He was the beloved husband of Harriet C. (Congdon) DiMartino for 66 years. Dominic was born on December 13, 1920 in Pioggio Fiorito, Abruzzi, Italy. A son of the late Camillo and Maria (DelZoppo) DiMartino, he and came to the United States at age 6. He was educated in Boston schools, and was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1943. Upon graduating college, he joined the United States Army during World War II and participated in campaigns in India and Burma. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the American Service Medal, the Sharpshooter Badge and the World War II Victory Medal. He attained the rank of first lieutenant and was honorably discharged in June of 1946. Mr. DiMartino was the retired owner and operator of D. DiMartino Construction Corporation of Franklin, which specialized in utility work for numerous cities and towns in the Commonwealth. He served the Town of Franklin as a member of the Conservation Committee, for over 25 years, and was a member of the building committee of the Franklin High School and the Horace Mann School. He was an avid Patriots fan and held season tickets for many years. Dominic was an avid swimmer, was an outstanding baseball player in college and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the Utility Contractors Association of New England, the National Utility Contractors Association, the Holy Name Society, St. Mary's Church, Franklin, St. Matthew Parish, Hallandale, Florida, and St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in West Falmouth, and was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his wife he leaves his children, Mary Ellen Deschenes and her husband Paul of Noank, Ct., Carol E. Irwin and her husband John of Salem, Ct., Debra L. DiMartino of Norfolk, Donald F. DiMartino and his wife Christine of Franklin and David C. DiMartino and his wife Jane of Franklin, 2 sisters, Elda Paolucci of Franklin and Kathleen Cibotti of West Falmouth and a brother Joseph DiMartino of Mashpee. He also leaves 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, & many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Marion Jacobs. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass Thursday October 25th at 10AM in St. Mary's Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin, MA 02038. His interment with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 10:45 on Friday October 26th. There are no calling hours.
