Obituary Condolences

Donald Sherman Mackintosh passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the age of 88. He was the son of the late Adam Mackintosh and Grace (Couthill) Mackintosh. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dona; sons, David and his wife Linda, and Gary. His oldest son, Alan, died in 1984. His grandchildren are: Jamie, Todd, and Alexandra Mackintosh Campo; great-grandchildren are Britton and Austyn Mackintosh, all from Georgia. Survivors also include his sister E. Jean Miller, and her husband, Kenneth. His youngest sister, Beverly, passed away in 2010. One of his greatest comforts in later years was his cat, Christy. He was born in Franklin, Massachusetts, in the house he lived in at the time of his death. He attended Franklin High School graduating in 1943. He attended Dean Academy and Junior College, Dartmouth College and Burdette College. He worked for over 30 years at Franklin Lumber Company, a family-owned business. He joined the Benjamin Franklin Savings Bank in 1977, retiring as Senior Vice-President in 1996. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed years of hunting, fishing and golf. His other interests included archery, photography, art, music and woodworking. Since New Hampshire was his favorite retreat with his family, he has been able to spend summers there in his retirement. He was an organizing member of the first Franklin Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Boy Scout Troop 125. He was President of Frances Eddy King Association, Director of Mass. Retail Lumber Dealers Association, Past Master of Excelsior Lodge A.F. & A.M., and a life member of Franklin Rod & Gun Club. Also, he was the first instructor of the NRA Gun Safety Course at the Franklin Rod & Gun Club. Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 23rd from 4-7 pm at Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 24th, at 11am, in the Ginley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: First Universalist Society in Franklin, P.O.
