Obituary Condolences

Edward Angelo Frongillo, 84, of Franklin passed away Tuesday October 15, 2013 after suffering a stroke a few months before. He was the beloved husband of Josephine Salvatora (Purpura) Frongillo who passed away in 2009. Born in the West End of Boston, April 20, 1929, the oldest son of the late Angelo Pasquale and Sara Celeste (Magno) Frongillo, he had lived in the Boston area before moving from Mattapan to Franklin in 1961. Educated in Boston schools and a Marine Corp veteran of the Korean War, he began working for Honeywell Data Systems in the manufacture of computers when that was a new industry. During most of his 17 years there, he was a cable designer, reasoning that cables to connect components would always be needed regardless of how small the components became. He then took a position at Corning Medical in Medfield, holding positions as a foreman and as a materials scheduler. In retirement, he worked for the Town of Franklin and as an ombudsman in nursing facilities. He also volunteered in hospitals and for home-delivered meals services. For 17 years, he was a crossing guard for children at the Kennedy Elementary School.Ed was a life-long fan of the Red Sox and the Celtics, and enjoyed watching both teams compete. He was an avid and capable card player, and enjoyed listening to music and square dancing. During their 58 years of marriage, he and his wife Jo traveled the United States and the world. He continued regular square dancing and his daily walk until his stroke occurred. Ed loved his wife, children, and grandchildren above all else. He was energized by being around children and young people, and he was a warm, easy, and engaging companion. One young friend recently commented on his capacity to make everyone around him feel appreciated. He is survived by his children, Edward A. Frongillo Jr. and his wife Marguerite of Columbia, SC, Mary Catherine Frongillo of Greenfield, Martin T. Frongillo and his wife Mary-Ellen of Milford, and Richard J. Frongillo and his wife Sandra of Franklin. Also surviving is his daughter-in-law Virginia Frongillo of Claremont, NC, and his sisters Irene Bosworth and Dorothy Raymon and his brother Peter Frongillo, all in the Boston area. He was known as Grandpa to 11 grandchildren and Uncle Ed to many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Michael J. Frongillo who died in 1999, and the brother of the late Rita Micale and Joseph Frongillo. Relatives and friends attended his funeral on Monday Oct. 21st, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St. (www.franklinfuneral.com) with a funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, 1 Church Sq. at 10AM. Burial with military honors followed in St. Marys Cemetery. Calling hours were Sunday Oct. 20th, from 4-8PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in his memory made to a charity of ones choice.
