Elizabeth J. Barrett Obituary
Elizabeth J. Betty Barrett, 92, of Millis where she has been a resident 1945, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday evening, November 3, 2015. Born in Milford, she was the daughter of the late William and Agnes G. (Corbett) Holden and was raised in Medway attending the Medway Schools graduating with the class of 1941. She has attended almost all of her high school class reunions ever since. Over her many years, she held many positions including over 30 years as an attendant at Medfield State Hospital from which she retired 30 years ago in 1985. She also did some catering prior to her years at the hospital. She was named Millis Citizen of the Year by the Millis Lions Club, organized with her husband the first Red Cross Blood Drive in Millis, loved gardening, crafts, cooking (youll know why when you see how many children they had), camping and volunteering for the many groups she was involved with. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Millis, she also served on the Board of Deacons, as well as many other committees. She was also active with the Millis COA, the Millis Garden Club, and the Millis Lions Club. For many years she and her husband were volunteer leaders with the Millis Boy Scouts long after their sons outgrew them, and were co-founders of the Beaus and Bells. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Richard C. Barrett Sr., she leaves 8 children, Katherine Candy Carlson (Wayne) and Bonny Smith (Phil) of Millis, Gayle Barrett of Plainville, Robyn Winn (William) of Lynn, Richard C. Barrett Jr. (Judy) of Falmouth, Peter S. Barrett (Belinda) and Paul D. Barrett all of Millis and Mark E. Barrett (Michelle) of Bellingham, 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She also was predeceased by a sister Barbara Joyce Barrett and a brother William Holden. Her Funeral Service was held Saturday, November 7th at 12 Noon at the Church of Christ, 142 Exchange Street, Millis with burial following in the family lot at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Millis. Visiting hours were Friday, November 6th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 90 Curve Street, Millis.
