Ernest Abraham Staves, 88, passed away in Angier, NC on Saturday, February 28, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Ernie was born in Woonsocket, RI raised by his late Uncle and Aunt, Alfred and Jenny Staves. A long time resident of Franklin. Ernie was a veteran of the Navy serving his country in WWII and Korean War. He was a butcher by trade, but known to Franklin residents and Dean College students as a motorcycle riding youth baseball coach and crossing guard. Coach Staves managed Franklin Youth Baseball for 22 years, winning the town championship in his last year coaching Little League. He was a proud member of the Ruptured Ducks Motorcycle Club and a New England Patriots season ticket holder for 39 years celebrating his 75th birthday with their first Super Bowl victory. Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Barbara and brother Joseph. A devoted and loving family man, Ernie is survived by his brother William, sister Theresa, daughter Linda Ann Marston and her husband Kerry, son Ernest Gerard Staves and his wife Susan and son Charles Alfred Staves. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Chad Marston and his wife Kathryn, Mike Marston and his wife Brooke, Matthew Marston, Tyler Staves and Olivia Staves as well as great grandchildren; Gabrielle, Zakary, Haley and Matthew. Ernie was known for his kindness and sense of humor which he maintained until his passing. He was a role model to all that new him and a best friend to many, especially his family. Ernie will be forever missed leaving a legacy of love, joy and service to his family and community. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, March 14 from 2:00-4:00 at Oteri Franklin Funeral Home in Franklin, MA.
