George Demery Obituary
On August 30, 2014 George Buddy Demery was taken by ambulance to the Milford Regional Hospital. With loved ones at his bedside, Buddy passed on September 3rd at 4:10 a.m. Buddy was Buddy Strong! He was determined to hold on to his independence in spite of struggling with the devastating symptoms of late stage lung disease. Buddys family meant the world to him. He is survived by the love of his life for fifty five years, Virginia Ginny Demery. He loved and was very proud of his three children, Mark Demery of Millis, MA, Liz Demery Bragg and her husband Austin of Arlington, VA, and Sarah Jo Hansen and her husband Brian of Shrewsbury, MA. Mere words cannot adequately express how much he loved his three grandsons, Eli, Luke and Aidan. As their doting grandpa he cherished the times spent with them. He is also survived by a much loved extended family, including Janie Smith of Portola, CA, dear brother and sister in laws, godchildren, cousins and many close friends. He will be greatly missed. Hosting family gatherings was important to Buddy. He would arise at dawn to get the turkey in the oven for Thanksgiving dinners. Buddy was a member of the Franklin Elks Lodge #2136. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with fellow lodge members sharing a joke, a brew and perhaps a game of shuffle board. Buddy had many jobs over the years, most recently with the Millis Department of Public Works where he proudly served as a loyal employee for 15 years. Buddy felt honored to have the opportunity to serve the town of Millis as an auxiliary police officer, ambulance attendant and, subsequently, as a special police officer for 28 years. He was very proud to be a Millis fire fighter for 23 years. He served the town with enthusiasm, dedication and skill. He loved the shared friendships and camaraderie with his fellow firefighters. He treated his Ladder Truck #1 like his baby. On March 24, 2000, after 23 years of faithful service with the Millis Fire Department, George Buddy Demerys Millis Fire Department Badge #15 was permanently retired. A memorial service celebrating Buddys life will be held on November 8 at 11 a.m. at the Millis Church of Christ, 142 Exchange Street, Millis, MA 02054 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Millis Fire Department or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
