George H. Gannon Jr., 83, of Franklin, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Milford Regional Medical Center following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Grimley) Gannon. Born Oct. 8, 1928, in Clinton, a son of the late George H. Gannon Sr. and Marie E. (Gibbons) Gannon, he had been a resident of Franklin since 1968 and was a former longtime resident of Clinton. He was raised and educated in Clinton, where he was a 1946 graduate of Clinton High School and, until his retirement several years ago, he was the sales representative and owner of G and S Sales, a wire and cable provider. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps., attained the rank of corporal and was part of the amphibian tractor crew. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, and was honorably discharged in September 1948. Known to everyone in his family and the neighborhood as the Handyman Extraordinaire, he would often be seen tinkering around the house. He loved the outdoors, hunting, crossword puzzles, and all the New England sports teams. He also took great joy spending time with his family, and being at his summer residence in White Field, N.H. He was a communicant of St. Marys Church and a former member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, George H. Gannon III and his wife, Debbie, of Douglas, Stephen M. Gannon and his wife, Brenda, of Mansfield, James P. Gurganus of Franklin, Joseph D. Gannon of Dubai, Steven J. Gannon and his wife, Carol, of Norton, Jeffrey J. Gannon and his wife, Pam, of Uxbridge, Michael P. Gannon of Franklin, Kathleen Sanders and her husband, Gary, of Attleboro, Susan Doyle of Milford, Deborah A. Gosselin and her husband, Sean, of Sutton, and Susan E. Gannon of West Boylston; two sisters, Alice Gannon and Elinor Lowe and her husband, Paul, all of Clinton. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Sheridan, and Barbara Shaunesy, and the grandfather of the late George H. Gannon IV. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 10:15 a.m., at the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St., Franklin, with a funeral Mass at St. Marys Church, 1 Church Square, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours are Monday, Jan. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the , 5 Manley St., West Bridge- water, MA 02379.
