John W. Callanan, Jr. 63, of Franklin, died peacefully at his home Tuesday January 13, 2015, following an illness. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Russo) Callanan. Born March 14, 1951 in Boston, a son of John W. Callanan, Sr. and Marie F. (Ferrick) Callanan of Norwood, he was a Franklin resident for over 20 years. He was raised and educated in Boston schools, and attended St. Gregorys grammar school in Dorchester, and was a 1969 graduate of Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury. He also attended Northeastern University. John worked as a machinist for the MBTA for 30 years before retiring. A devoted family man, he adored his wife, daughters and granddaughter. He enjoyed playing golf, listening to music, the New England Patriots, and his Thursday afternoon lunch group. In addition to his wife of 36 years and his parents, he is survived by 2 daughters; Kristen L. Kelley and her husband John of Franklin, Michelle A. Callanan and her companion James N. Dowling of Roslindale, 2 sisters; Gail Sebet and her husband William of Westwood, Lynne Greeley and her husband Kevin of Norwood, a brother Richard Callanan and his wife Paula of Needham, his granddaughter Alexandra J. Kelley and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Saturday Jan. 17th, at 9 AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St. with a funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, 1 Church Sq., Franklin at 10AM. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
