Marilyn F. (Gauthier) Shaw 87, of Franklin, died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her family, following a long illness. She was the wife of the late David E. Shaw who died in 1960. Born December 13, 1925 in Boston, a daughter of the late Harry H. and Frances C. (Connell) Gauthier, she was a longtime Franklin resident and was a former resident of Allston. She was raised and educated in Allston, and attended St. Anthonys School. Marilyn was a retired homemaker. She was a devoted mother, who raised her children following the loss of her husband at a young age. Marilyn enjoyed gardening, all animals, reading, cooking, holding family gatherings and rooted for all the Boston sports teams. She was very outgoing, a real people person, and was always ready to engage in a political conversation. Marilyn is survived by her children; Diane Friend and her husband Dana, Lynn Shaw and partner Edward J. Lang, Jr. and Patty Shaw-Mullaney and her husband Bernie Mullaney Jr., all of Franklin, a brother John H. Gauthier of Braintree, and a devoted friend and caregiver Sue Borozny of Woonsocket. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Terri Seymour and her husband John, Mark Friend and his wife Amy, Rachael Friend, Micaela Hersee, Amanda and James Mullaney, and her great-grandchildren Jaimie and Zachery Seymour, and Timothy, Lily, and Penny Friend and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late David E. Shaw, James E. Shaw and sister of the late Eleanor M. Gauthier. Relatives and friends were invited to attend her funeral Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 9:15 a.m. from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St., Franklin, with a funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, 1 Church Sq., at 10 a.m. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Brighton.
