Melvin J. Root FRANKLIN Melvin J. Root, 96, of Franklin died December 14, 2009 in his home; he was the husband of Alice C. (Bishop) Root for the past 66 years. Born in Claremont, N.H., October 31, 1913 the son of the late Jethro B. and Abigail (Hatch) Root, Mr. Root had lived in Franklin for most of his life. Mr. Root, a farmer, had operated the Echo Farm in Franklin for many years. Mr. Root was a member of the Franklin Federated Church. He was a skilled woodworker, and repaired antique furniture as a hobby. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Timothy Root and his wife, Gwyn, of Douglas, Patricia Morse of Franklin, Susan Hehn and her husband, Robert, of Franklin and Marilyn Cook and her husband, Warren, of Wrentham. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 17 in the Franklin Federated Church at 11 a.m.. Visitation will be in the church from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Memorial Fund of the Franklin Federated Church, 171 Main St., Franklin, MA 02038. Arrangements are under the care of the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com), 131 Main St., Franklin.
