Pietro Pete Ferrara 86, of Franklin, died peacefully, with his family at his side Friday November 20, 2015 at Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Cristina E. (Colace) Ferrara. Born December 11, 1928 in Santa Maria del Molise, Italy a son of the late Giovanni and Carmina (Taddeo) Ferrara, he was a resident of Franklin since 1961. He was raised and educated in Italy and in 1951 immigrated to Canada. In 1961 he moved to Franklin to raise his family, it was also that year that he started Ferraras Market on Washington St. In 1991, he moved the market to its current location on West Central St. and is under the ownership of his grandson, Joseph. Pete loved to work at the market; he always treated his customers as family, and gave them guidance in preparing the food that they bought from him. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, tending to his lawn, gardening and playing bocce ball. He was a communicant of St. Marys Church, and a member of the Franklin Knights of Columbus, and the St. Anthony Society. In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by his children; Valentina M. Kinch and her husband William of Indiana, Giannina D. DeGaetano of Franklin, Maria A. Giorgio and her husband Michael of Franklin and Anna F. Clarke and her husband James of Franklin, 2 sisters Antonia Colace of Franklin and Maria Taddeo of Montreal. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Angela, Nicholas Kinch, Pietro, Joseph, Antonio, Giovanni, Cristina DeGaetano, Vincenzo, Marco Giorgio and Christopher Clarke and great granddaughters, Addison, Ellie, Isabella, Kayla and Gianna. He was the brother of the late Michele Ferrara and Yolanda Bertone. Relatives and friends were invited to attend his funeral Wed. Nov. 25th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Marys Church at 10AM. Entombment followed at the Ferrara family mausoleum, in St. Marys Cemetery. Calling hours were held Tues. 4-8PM at the funeral home.
